It’s most likely that you are quite aware of what you do and consume throughout a day. This can both be mentally, physically, food, beverages, etc. And so as your body and mind is affected by what you consume, the same counts for your skin. Everything that you apply to your skin affects your skin – and sometimes mental and overall health. Some ingredients and products doesn’t get past the epidermis, but some actually goes past that. These can both positively and negatively affect your health and bloodstream. And parabens are one of those, that affect negatively.
What are parabens really?
Let’s start by explaining what parabens actually are. Parabens are a form of preservatives that typically are used to prolong the life of your products. Many health and beauty products, like moisturizers, concealers, foundations, mascara, body lotion, spf, etc., contains parabens in order to prolong their shelf life, so they’re able to last for months or years.
Basically, parabens goes in and disallow mold from forming inside of the container – and thus the product can last.
As you might caught, parabens stays in the products – and they do the same in your body. Over time, from long time ‘wear’ and exposure to them, they can start to enter and ‘lodge’ in your system’s tissue. Parabens aren’t something to joke around about. They are known to cause severe health issues, potentially leading to various negative side effects, such as diseases.

Potential health risks
Skin irritation is the most common side effect of using products containing parabens. This is not a threatening side effect, but merely an annoying one – and one that should be taken seriously! Because once parabens are within your tissue, they are active. Parabens are known to disrupt your hormone function, as they mimic estrogen, which is the female hormone. If you have too much estrogen in your body, your reproduction ability can be at risk, just as you can get an increase in areas cell division, and growth of tumors. Though you can note that there isn’t enough research on the scope, to definitively connect usage of paraben cosmetics and a higher chance of severe side effects.
So if you want to play it safe and eliminate the chances of paraben-side-effects, we’d suggest you to go after paraben-free products.
– that are just as effective as products with parabens!
Why ‘no parabens’ isn’t enough for Boë
Boë was founded because the founder’s wife suffers from, among other, rosacea, allergies, and MCS. So he wanted to give his wife clean products that she could use every day, without getting irritated skin or expose herself to negative side effects from non-clean products. This is why Boë is free from parabens, allergies, endocrine disruptors, fragrances, silicones, oils, and sulfates, and is cruelty-free. And this is just to name some of the deliberate choices we’ve made regarding our products.
We want you to feel safe and non-exposed when you are using and applying Boë to your skin.
